About James
James Minchello is a Managing Director and Wealth Partner at J.P. Morgan Wealth Management.
As the founding member of The MP Group, he spearheads the delivery of comprehensive asset management services to provide the skilled advice, personalized attention and dedicated care for which the team is known. Over the course of his distinguished career, Jim has earned highly recognized industry designations. Most recently he was named one of Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023).1ㅤㅤ
With almost 30 years of capital markets experience, Jim leads the private equity and venture services effort for the team leveraging the vast resources of J.P. Morgan. He has extensive experience in restricted stock sales and the design of exit strategies for venture capital, buyout funds and other large holders of securities. As a natural extension of his practice, Jim serves the personal and sophisticated wealth management needs of the private equity community, offering deep capabilities to address the complexities of liquidity management and diversification of concentrated positions. He has built a reputation for his strategy-based orientation and he exercises a distinctive command for the development of tailored investment management portfolios and both wealth planning ideas and wealth transfer strategies.
Jim is a portfolio manager in the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Portfolio Manager Program2 , where he stands among a select group of advisors who undergo a screening process to manage discretionary client assets and are subject to ongoing quantitative and qualitative reviews to assess each advisor's investment strategy. These capabilities elevate and differentiate his wealth management guidance and he draws on this knowledge and background to inform his client-driven process.
Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Wealth Management, Jim was a Managing Director at Citi Smith Barney, where he headed the Venture Services Group and provided institutional coverage for major organizations. He held comparable roles at Bank of America Securities, Lehman Brothers and Kidder, Peabody & Co.
Jim holds a B.S. in Accounting from Norwich University and has two graduate degrees—an M.B.A. from the University of Wyoming and an M.S. from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Formerly, he served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.
Jim and his wife live in Boston, Massachusetts. They have two children and one precious granddaughter.
