About Derek
Derek Mohamed is a Managing Director and Wealth Partner at J.P. Morgan Wealth Management.
As the group's co-founder, Derek and his colleagues joined the firm in 2023 from First Republic Wealth Management. Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years as a Managing Director and Wealth Management Advisor at Merrill Lynch, UBS and Morgan Stanley.
Throughout his career, Derek has worked tirelessly to advance the ambitions and priorities of an ultra-highnet-worth clientele, streamlining the complexities and unwinding the intricacies of addressing their wealth and wishes. To deliver an elite level of knowledge, know-how and responsive service, he has modeled the practice after family offices and how they serve the world's wealthiest families.
An only child, Derek lost his father suddenly to a heart attack when he was only 19. Living away at college at the time, he moved back home to help his mother and subsequently learned that his parents had not had the benefit of professional financial advice, which had a dramatic impact on the family in the years to come. To this day, his personal experience drives his passion to help the families the practice serves.
A lifetime learner, Derek holds the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) designation, the Chartered Retired Planning CounselorSM (CRPC®) designation and the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) designation.
"Results and relationships matter to us – and to our clients. In addition to managing capital extremely well, we provide multi-faceted wealth planning that touches every corner of a client's financial picture. Whether we are helping them plan for a once-in-a lifetime liquidity event or design a plan for the rest of their life, we leave no stone unturned and nothing to chance."
Derek graduated summa cum laude from Assumption University with a B.A. in Economics. Generous with his time and resources, he has actively supported several local educational institutions and nonprofit organizations, including The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest, the Navy SEAL Foundation and Grace Church. He is also a proud and active member of YPO (Young Presidents' Organization).
Derek makes his home in Westborough, Massachusetts with his wife, Nicole, their daughter and two sons. Passionate about health and fitness, Derek was a CrossFit competitor for many years and won a world championship with Team CrossFit New England at the CrossFit Games in 2011. Before that, he served as captain of his college ice hockey team. Today, he enjoys staying active and spends time playing golf, hiking, and coaching his youngest son's hockey team.
