About Bruce
Bruce Lyle is a Vice President and Wealth Advisor at J.P. Morgan Wealth Management.
Bruce has spent the past four decades working side by side-by-side with wealthy families and business owners how have built and sold their companies to public and private companies.
"Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations" is a quote attributed to Andrew Carnegie. Due to the daunting nature of this cycle, Bruce asks his clients, How can we help your future generations learn to manage and preserve what you have worked so hard to build?
Because each journey has different destinations, Bruce helps individuals construct their vision for the future. He explores how clients want to live their lives, the people who are most important to them and the impact they want to have. He also enjoys including the second and third generations in meetings to address their personal interests, financial controls and the continuation of a family's values. As J.P. Morgan said, 'The changing of a vague difficulty into a specific, concrete form is a very essential element in thinking."
Bruce has found that each family has different complexities. His father was an estate planning attorney and his mother an accountant. He grew up hearing about the risks and challenges wealthy families face. A common question he asks clients is, How was Sam Walton able to pass his wealth on to his children without losing the majority to taxes? A strong collaborator, Bruce communicates closely with each client's attorneys, accountants and other advisors to ensure their strategies are in sync.
Before joining J.P. Morgan in 2011, Bruce was a Vice President at UBS in San Francisco and Newport Beach. Previously, he was a Principal at Thomas Weisel Partners in San Francisco.
Bruce and his wife, Laurie, have four children and five grandchildren. One of their sons earned his degree from the Berklee College of Music and holds an M.A. from the Manhattan School of Music. Another son graduated from Colorado College with a B.S. in physics. Bruce enjoyed coaching Little League, skiing, surfing and playing tennis with his kids. He and Laurie enjoy traveling, cycling and snorkeling together.
Bruce was the state tennis champion of Arizona and continued playing in college. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of San Diego, where he graduated magna cum laude. He entered the financial industry in 1986 after taking a sabbatical from the London Business School.
