Melissa Conroy Whitney is a Wealth Partner and Managing Director with J.P. Morgan Wealth Management. Melissa has over 20 years of financial services experience and has focused her entire career exclusively on corporate cash management. She invests excess cash for corporations in fixed income securities, which include corporate, agency, municipal and Treasury bonds, commercial paper, money market funds and certificates of deposit.
As a Portfolio Manager in the firm's exclusive Portfolio Manager Program, she has access to J.P. Morgan's fixed income platform, which she uses to actively manage customized portfolios of corporate cash on a discretionary basis for her clients. To qualify as a Portfolio Manager, Melissa has undergone a rigorous screening process and is subject to periodic review on a qualitative and quantitative basis.
Melissa evaluates a company's needs by assessing how much credit risk it can assume. She also determines its cash burn rate to determine whether the client has enough available cash to meet its liquidity needs. She recognizes that her clients, who are very conservative and risk averse, value having an advisor whom they can trust and who is always accessible, as well as J.P. Morgan's competitive fees and the investment portfolio reporting that she provides them through Clearwater Analytics.
Melissa joined J.P. Morgan in 2013. Previously, she was a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank Alex Brown (2007–2013) in San Francisco. She began her career at Lehman Brothers in NYC in 1995; she relocated to the firm's San Francisco office in 1997 and worked there until 2007.
Melissa received a B.S. in Business from Providence College and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. Originally from New Jersey, Melissa lives in Oakland with her husband and their three children.
